In 2022, one in five people ages 14 to 26 were at-risk of not graduating high school on time or had already disconnected from school and employment — young people who have dropped out of school or are in danger of dropping out of school, and who are, for those ages 18 to 26, unemployed, and in many cases struggling to become employable.
According to a new research report by Boston Consulting Group, in 2022 one in five of Connecticut’s young people were either at-risk or disconnected. These are 119,000 young people who have either dropped out of school or are in danger of dropping out of school, and who are, for those ages 18 to 26, unemployed, and in many cases unemployable.
Though it should occur more frequently throughout the year, Teacher Appreciation Day is a wonderful time to celebrate teachers. Every spring, we pause and reflect on the central role teachers have played in our lives, as well as in the lives of over 500,000 students attending public schools across Connecticut each day.
Most employers will attest to the fact that their most valued employees are responsible and motivated. They work effectively with others, they know how to think critically, they consider diverse views and grapple with difficult problems. A new report confirms that these same abilities that lead to career success are also required for students to succeed in school.
